Thirty-nine thousand miles on a 2014 Sportage is roughly a third of what these normally show by now, and this is the KX-4 — the trim that sat right at the top of the range, where the equipment came fitted rather than as options.

The 2.0 CRDi drives through a six-speed automatic and four-wheel drive. That is the combination worth having in a Sportage: enough torque to make light work of a loaded car, and grip on a wet field or a slippery slip road that a front-wheel-drive crossover simply does not have.

Worth knowing before you travel

This is a Euro 5b diesel, and it is not ULEZ compliant. Inside the London zone that means a daily charge every time it moves. Outside the zone it makes no difference whatsoever — and it is a good part of the reason a car with this mileage and this specification sits at this price.

Finished in white on diamond-cut alloys, with roof rails, side steps and privacy glass — the KX-4 wore the lot as standard.
